Psychotherapy

What is Psychodynamic Psychotherapy?

Psychodynamic Psychotherapy is a long-term in-depth talk therapy that aims to uncover unconcious thinking and relational processes informed by early life experiences and unresolved conflicts. The idea is that these processes shape, inform and play out in the contemporary difficulties of ones life, underscoring how one relates to themselves and others.

The outcomes of Psychodynamic Psychotherapy aims not only for symptom remission ( less anxiety, less depression) but also:

  • To build greater internal capacities to tolerate and recognise a wider ranger of emotions and feelings within oneself and others.

  • Develop a healthier more reality-based sense of self.

  • To more effectively use one’s strengths and abilities.

  • Have more fulfilling relationships.

  • Have a greater freedom and flexibility to face life’s challenges.

Psychodynamic Psychotherapy is offered on a weekly or fortnightly basis.

Engaging in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy is a separate undertaking to general or neurospsychiatric assessment and care, but is not necessarily mutually exclusive.
